Introduction – About the Competition
The Popular Piano Competition aims to bring together young aspiring piano players of all nationalities in a celebration of music and passion amid global hardships, and to spread joy and hope into the world. The Online competition medium seeks to overcome all physical boundaries by utilizing technology to its purpose of connecting people around the globe. Organized by RS Event Center in partnership with Guangzhou Pearl River Piano Group.

VIDEO SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
- Please submit only one video link after you’ve uploaded that includes all your items.
- Only video recordings, not audio recordings, are accepted.
- Capture the performance as a single take, you must not stop or pause in between the recording.
- You must not use video editing software for your competition video.
- Your face with both your hands must be visible in the video, so we can identify the participant taking part for the competition.
- Record your video with a resolution of at least 720p making sure of good audio quality. Inadequate audio & /or video quality may cause an entry to be disqualified, or require resubmission.
- Check the video recording carefully before submission, making sure the picture and sound are of a reasonable quality and that the full recording has been captured.
- Avoid the lighting on your back or into the camera lens. Video must be reasonably lit so as to clearly see the participant.
- To prevent shaking of your video recording, you may stabilize your camera with a tripod stand.
- If you are playing with backing track, make sure the backing track is clearly recorded into the video.

Video submission will only be allowed with a complete online registration and full registration fee payment.

Record your Competition Video and upload your video to a permanent video sharing service, such as YouTube, Vimeo, or Dailymotion. Temporary file sharing (such as WeTransfer) is not recommended.
- Allow the access to view your video link submitted. In the security setting, please “Allow anyone with the link to view the video.”

GENERAL RULES & REGULATIONS
- Participants are required to be neatly and appropriately dressed for all sessions of the competition.
- Registration fee must be paid in full during registration.
- Registration fees are not refundable.
- Participants must not be music teachers, professional musicians or derive their principal source of income from public performance.
- The organizer reserves the right to cancel any competition categories due to any unforeseen circumstances.
- In the event of cancellation by the organizer, the registration fees will be fully refunded.
- By joining the competition, participants agree for their materials to be used for future publicity.
- Participants will be assessed on: Musicality 25%, Technique, 25%, Performance (Style Expression & Mood) 25%, Interpretation & Presentation 25%
- All participants are responsible for all soundtracks and music copyright issue. The organising committee is not responsible for copyright disputes (if any). The participant shall be liable for any loss and damage caused to the organising committee in the event of any dispute.
- All Finalists (applicable for Singapore Finalist) are to book a slot for their Final Video recording at Bechstein Music World using the Official Competition Piano – Pearl River Digital Piano GP-1100. The details of booking will be announced via email to all Finalists.
- On the day of the competition (FINAL), participants may be required to verify their identity and age with any photo ID that has their date of birth (NRIC, passport,etc).
- In case of any dispute, the decision of the organising committee is final.
VICTOR KAM
INDONESIA
A passionate music teacher with more than 20 years experience in Indonesia and Singapore. Victor Kam holds a Masters degree in Architecture summa cum laude from Parahyangan University of Indonesia and Diploma in Piano performance from Trinity College of Music, London.
He was an accompanist and choir member of prestigious Parahyangan Catholic University Choir that has won many awards in International competitions.
Now, he is active as music examiner, accompanist and also served on the juries of several competitions, recently was Singapore International Youth Piano Competition.
HARVARD SOO
SINGAPORE
Harvard started his music journey in both classical and contemporary genre through piano at the age of 6. He obtained his Diploma in Contemporary Music (Piano) from Trinity College when he was 15 years old, followed by a Diploma in Classical Piano from London College at the age of 19. He went on to complete his 3rd Diploma in Jazz Performance at Lasalle College of the Arts.
As an avid believer in holistic music education, he is committed to train and groom students at all levels in technique, theoretical knowledge, and also musicianship. His insightful and inspiring lesson planning allows students to build a firm foundation for a continuous quest for an enhanced musical imagination, technical expertise and passion for music.
LAW LEH SANG
MALAYSIA
Miss Law Leh Sang started playing the piano lesson at the age of 8.
In 1995, she entered the Monash University, Australia, to pursue advanced studies in music majoring in piano performance and musicology, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree, afterwhich she continued with a Postgraduate Diploma of Arts (Music) exploring more musical genres, pedagogy and research methods.
In 1997, she travelled to Shizuoka, Japan to perform in The 7th Japan International Youth Musicale. With the remarkable results, she was awarded as a whole-life membership by “The Golden Key National Honour Society”. Her active involvement in church composition also won her several prizes in the “Australian Methodist Youth Conference Camp”.
With her 20 years professionalism and commitment to music education, she is now Music Education Manager in A2G Music Centre Pte. Ltd.
ANDREW BONG
USA
Andrew Bong is an award-winning composer, orchestrator and music producer. His works have premiered at international film festivals in Los Angeles & Chicago (USA), Denmark (EU), and Asia as well as appearing on award-winning albums in China under the country’s leading Classical Music Recording Label (RHYMOI Music), and recent Malaysian Animated film “Upin & Ipin: Keris Siamang Tunggal”.
He is also a singer and a multi-instrumentalist, playing violin, ukulele, guitar, and piano having performed as an invited guest to the prestigious Capital Records (USA) where he wrote and sang his original songs for a live studio recording session with Grammy Award-winning recording engineer Al Schmitt (Quincy Jones, Paul McCartney, Frank Sinatra).
Besides composing, Andrew Bong has also worked as a recording engineer for Tripe-A game titles, Final Fantasy 15 by SquareEnix and anime, Little Witch Academia 2 for Netflix.
Andrew is currently a member of The Society of Composer & Lyricists (USA)
DR. ONPAVEE NITISINGKARIN
THAILAND
Dr. Onpavee Nitisingkarin received her undergraduate degree in piano performance at College of Music, Mahidol University where she is currently a piano instructor. She has also received numerous diplomas in piano from the Trinity College of Music in London.
After completing her Bachelor’s Degree, she attended West Virginia University for her Master’s degree in music and a Doctorate in piano performance. Whilst pursuing her studies, she garnered various awards & accolades in the university’s Classical and Jazz piano festivals and performances, and was a senior piano instructor in the WVU community music program teaching Piano, Eurhythmics (music and movement 1 and 2), and Explore and Enjoy classes for toddlers. She was also piano faculty at Washington and Jefferson College as well as at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center in Pennsylvania.
Dr. Nitisingkarin is in the Dalcroze Eurhythmics Certification program at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh as well as Orff Certificate program at George Mason University.
KAORI NAKAMURA
JAPAN
A Graduate of Nihon University, Kaori Majored in Arts with a concentration in Piano. She was also Graphic Design Major at Vantan Design Institute.
Her performing and music directing work include many live collaborations, performances at many famous Tokyo Michelin starred restaurants, and appearances in productions for famous Japan comedians such as Neptune, and Shimura Ken in his “Laugh Shimra Ken” Show, and “Shimurakon 10 & 11” tours. She has also worked as cast, cound crew and musician in movies such as “Heart Beat” and “Gomennasai”.
Kaori has won awards for her work as Musical Director and Main Cast in the movie “Border”, winning the Composition National Graduation School Festival Grand Prix award and the Ueda Castle Town Film Festival Jury Prize Winning Acoustics · Recording JPPA Group Silver Award.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION (FAQ)
- I am not from Singapore. Do I need to travel to Singapore if I qualify for the Finals? What if travel restrictions in my country do not allow, will I be disqualified?
For Finalist, you can record your final video and submit the Video link from your home country too. There is no need to travel to Singapore for overseas participants. - Can I play on the keyboard or I must use a 88 keys piano for my video submission?
Yes, keyboard with at least 61-keys is accepted. - Can I register first and submit my video later?
Yes, you can register first and submit the video when you are ready, or latest by 30 September 2020. - Can I play pieces or songs from the ABRSM syllabus?
Yes, pieces from 20th Century in ABRSM syllabus are accepted. - How many songs do I need to play for the competition?
Any repertoire or excerpt with a maximum 4 minutes for your video recording. - Any student price for registration fee?
No, standard registration fee is $30 for all categories. - How will I be notified for the results?
All the participants will receive an email for the results, which will be also be announced on our RS Event Center Facebook Page. - Where can I watch the videos from other participants?
Only Finalist’s Videos will be published on the RS Event Facebook page for voting of the Most Popular Video Award. You can watch all the Finalist Videos from 24 October 2020. - Where will this competition take place?
This is an online competition hence it can take place in the comfort of your home by submitting your competition video link to us. The 3rd Pearl River Amason Digital Piano International Competition Final will be held at Bechstein Music World (live Streaming from Guangzhou, China) where only the 1st prize winners will need to attend. - Is this competition open for all countries?
Yes, this competition open for all countries in Asia including Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia, Philippines and more. - Can I play with my backing track?
Yes, playing with backing track is permissible. - Can I attend the Final on 7 November at Bechstein Music World as I’m interested to watch the Final.
You can watch the Finals from your home via the Live streaming from Bechstein Music World. More details will be shared nearer to the date. - Can I change another Piece for my Final video?
Yes, you can choose to play the same or a different piece during the Final. - Do we need to submit the performance piece score?
There is no need to submit any piano score to us. - I will be playing Beethovan piece which is not from the 20th century period but with own improvised version, can I still participate in this competition?
Yes if it is an improvisation piece, we will accept the entry.
