In partnership with the local drumming legend Joshua Agilan, RSEC orchestrated an immersive workshop, “Beat the Score – A Drummer’s Guide to Rockschool Exam Brilliance,” on February 24, 2024. The workshop pulsated with rhythm, providing attendees with a unique insight into the world of drumming brilliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Empowering Drummers with Joshua’s Drumming Expertise<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua Agilan, the maestro behind the drum kit, took the stage and shared with participants some invaluable tips for analyzing songs, constructing drum solos, and navigating the nuances of the RSL Drum Exams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua’s expertise went beyond Drum Soloing approaches. He generously shared tips on drum techniques, emphasizing injury prevention and effective practice strategies. The latecomers seamlessly integrated into the workshop, absorbing the rich content delivered by Joshua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deconstructing Solo Sections: A Deep Dive<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop featured a meticulous analysis of solo sections from selected pieces, where Joshua guided attendees in actively listening for themes and motifs. Insights flowed on constructing compelling drum solos, whether or not specific hits or stabs were indicated in the music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interactive Rhythmic Exploration<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Audience participation reached its crescendo as attendees actively observed solo sections, identifying rhythmic motifs to incorporate into their own solos. Prizes were distributed, infusing the atmosphere with lively interaction and fostering a sense of camaraderie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q&A Unveiling Drumming Wisdom<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Q&A session delved into various facets, from the intricacies of learning and teaching to Joshua’s personal drum journey story. Reflecting on the value of Rockschool Qualifications, Joshua emphasized that the certification serves not only as a benchmark but also as a practical gateway for students. Many former students have ventured into teaching whilst keeping regular day jobs, turning their passion into a viable side-income opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having gone through a long, and eventful drumming journey (wherein he almost gave up drumming!), his story is a touching and empowering one. In closing, Joshua left attendees with a heartfelt message, urging them to approach their drumming journey and other pursuits with their whole heart. Whether in drumming, working in jobs, or life itself, Joshua’s words resonated, leaving a rhythmic imprint on the hearts of all who attended.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
