As part of the RSL Face-to-Face Exams Tour B 2025, we’re delighted to welcome Matt Willshaw to Singapore — a passionate educator, accomplished performer, and seasoned Rockschool examiner.
Matt’s musical journey began at the age of eight with classical piano under the ABRSM syllabus. It wasn’t long before his curiosity and musical instincts led him to explore other instruments. During his teenage years, he branched out into guitar and drums, drawn to the expressive energy of contemporary music — a decision that would shape his path as a multi-instrumentalist and educator.
By his late teens, Matt had already established himself as a session musician, music educator, and musical director. His formal studies at Walsall College of Arts and subsequently at Wolverhampton University, where he completed his music degree, gave him a solid foundation in both performance and teaching.
With a career spanning international tours, studio recordings, and years of teaching across the UK, Matt has developed a unique versatility across styles and instruments, especially in keys, drums, and vocals. His work reflects a deep understanding of both the technical and creative aspects of music-making.

Since joining RSL Awards as an examiner in 2006, Matt has played a key role in assessing and supporting aspiring musicians, bringing a friendly and insightful presence to every exam room. Candidates can expect an encouraging environment grounded in professional standards and real-world musical experience.
As Singapore continues to grow as a hub for contemporary music education, it’s a privilege to host an examiner who shares our commitment to nurturing talent and inspiring confidence.
We look forward to welcoming Matt Willshaw to Singapore this exam season — and to all the meaningful musical moments ahead.
